The Laney-Jane Bag - Paper Pattern - Emmaline Bags

The Laney-Jane Bag is a vintage inspired structured bag, designed with a beginner to advanced bag maker in mind. The interesting construction methods, hanging zipper pocket divider, and turning method are implemented to help make a heavily stabilized bag without the need of specialized machines and handcrafting techniques. This allows us to create a quick and easy stabilized bag using a domestic machine and the supplies most of us already have!

Although instructions are geared towards both heavier fabric and quilting cottons, only advanced level bag makers with heavy duty domestic machines should use faux leather or vinyl in their bag. Bag makers that are new to sewing should start with a quilting cotton version.

SKILL LEVEL:

• This pattern is suitable for an intermediate to advanced sewer.  Beginner bag makers with sewing experience could easily make this bag using the sew-along video for reference.

APPROX. FINISHED SIZE:

• Width at Bottom - 12" (30 cm) 
• Width at Top - 10 1/2" (27 cm)
• Height - 8" (20 cm)
• Depth at Base - 3 3/4" (9.5 cm) 

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:

(Yardages are approximate. More fabric may be required if pattern matching or using directional print.). **HINT: Refer to the first 5-minutes of the video for fabric and stabilizer recommendations and options available to you.          

• Exterior Fabric:  ¾ yd./0.75 m
• Beginner to Advanced - Light woven fabric such as quilting cotton. [44” wide (112 cm)]
• Advanced Level Only - Faux leather or vinyl. [54” wide (137 cm)]
• Lining Fabric:  ¾ yd./0.75 m
• Light woven fabric such as quilting cotton. [44” wide (112 cm)]

Zippers & Bag Hardware:

• (1) x 7” (18 cm) Zipper for the internal hanging zipper pocket (#3 nylon all-purpose zipper, 1” wide, non-separating) - You can buy a longer zipper, or 7” (18 cm) of #3 zipper by the yard if preferred because it will be trimmed down.
• (10) x Medium Rivets: 3/8" Caps x 5/16" Post (9 mm x 8 mm) – IMPORTANT: These are not optional. You may have to adjust the size up or down, depending on the thickness of the material.
• (1) x 3/4” (18 mm) Strap Slider (A Wide Mouth Strap Slider is recommended for faux leather, or vinyl straps.)
• (2) x 3/4” (18 mm) D-Rings
• (1) x Rectangular Turn Lock [1-1/2" (38 mm) wide x 1" (25 mm) high] OR (1) x 18 mm Magnetic Snap (A differently shaped turn lock can be used if desired.)
• (2) x 3/4” (18 mm) Swivel Snap Hooks
• (4) x 3/8” (10 mm) or 9/16” (14 mm) Purse Feet
• (2) x 3/4” (18 mm) Strap Ends for the handle and
• Optional: (2) x 3/4” (18 mm) Strap Ends (For the shoulder strap.)
• Optional: (1) Metal Edge Trim: Style B - Medium Pointed or (1) Metal Edge Trim: Style D - Curved (Choose this depending on which flap style you choose, or you can make the bag with no metal trim.)
